What are the challenges faced by the logistics sector?

According to Pôle emploi, at the end of 2022, the logistics and transport professions had 22,000 positions to be filled. At the time, it was one of the sectors most under pressure in France (alongside the hotel and restaurant industry and health).

Faced with the sharp increase in demand and the growing demands of consumers, the sector is struggling to find a sufficient workforce. Job offers in the transport and logistics professions are estimated to have increased by 51% in 2021 compared to the previous year. In 2022, this sector had nearly 2 million employees (this is one of the most employment-generating sectors in France) and brought together 150,000 companies, representing 10% of the national GDP.

Among the professions that recruit the most in logistics are forklift operators, order pickers, logistics dock managers, warehouse workers, inventors, logistics suppliers, logistics technicians, truck drivers and delivery drivers.

In addition to these recruitment issues, the logistics sector must also meet the increasingly demanding expectations of consumers (in terms of delivery times, quality, etc.) and take into consideration current environmental issues.
