Women in their forties: what opportunities for senior women

Article mis à jour le 3 August 2026

FocusRH tells us about women aged 45 and over in the labour market.

Frédérique Guénot relies on the Association Force Femmes, which held its third university and last February, to relay these conclusions to us:

For those who are looking for a job:

  • Women in this age group feel confident with their experience and skills (86%). They know how to value their soft skills
  • They are flexible and adaptable: more than 2/3 of those looking for a job could consider retraining, even if it means training, and 92% of them are ready to make concessions to find a job (on remuneration 55%, on the duration of the contract 58% for example). 37% of them hesitate between starting a business and returning to work
  • Similarly, the equality index will apply to 40,000 companies, which reassures the female population, especially the elderly

Recognized as stable elements and wishing to invest in the company over the long term; Women aged 45 and over still show too little of their assets and skills. In addition, they are generally less good “networkers”.

  1. the elimination of the wage gap between women and men, for comparable positions and ages,
  2. the same chance of getting a raise for women as for men,
  3. the same opportunity for women to be promoted as for men,
  4. all employees who received a raise on their return from maternity leave, as long as increases were given in their absence,
  5. at least four women in the 10 highest earners. Two of the five indicators were tested on all 40,000 companies concerned.

Finally, the global method was also tested in real situations in 35 companies with more than 50 employees, in partnership with the ANDRH.
