Tax accountant: role and missions

The tax accountant has dual expertise in accounting and taxation. He is responsible for managing the accounts, keeping the accounting and legal books, analyzing the financial results, determining the taxable result and making the company’s tax returns. He also assists the company in the implementation of its tax policy. He is also responsible for defending the interests of the company during tax audits. He is therefore responsible for compliance with the tax and legal provisions of all the company’s business units.

When to call on a tax accountant?

It may be relevant to call on a transitional tax specialist in many cases:

  • Optimize the taxation of your company;
  • Putting the company’s tax and accounting management in order;
  • Carry out tax compliance;
  • Managing litigation with tax authorities;
  • During a delicate period (financial difficulties, large-scale financial operation – mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, etc.);
  • Implement a new tax strategy to reduce tax risks and financial losses;

In addition to their advanced skills and mastery of tax procedures, the tax accountant also has great rigour and meticulousness as well as excellent analytical and synthesis skills. All these skills allow him to offer high-level support, perfectly aligned with the needs of the company.

Example of a transition assignment with a tax accountant for the health sector

At WAYDEN, one of our interim managers, Arthur Bali*, was commissioned to support a group active in the healthcare sector. The company, which owns several medico-social establishments (retirement homes, care clinics, etc.), has nearly 100,000 employees and a turnover of more than 4 billion euros.

Following numerous internal and external tax audits, the group’s tax department wanted to strengthen its team on a temporary basis. The company has therefore resorted to the expertise of an interim manager.

The latter was to take on the role of tax accountant in France and worldwide.

WAYDEN, which has a pool of 8,000 highly qualified executives and interim managers, was able to quickly identify the ideal speaker. The WAYDEN Associate Director organized, within a period of less than 48 hours, an exchange with the client to introduce him to Arthur Bali, with more than 35 years of experience in the management of corporate and consolidated accounts and in the management of tax returns (tax consolidation, transfer pricing policy) and tax audits. Operational immediately, he was responsible for carrying out the Group’s financial close, taking into account VAT returns, as well as the issue of tax consolidation.

Throughout the mission, a monthly follow-up was carried out with the interim manager and the client, to preserve agile and close communication between the various stakeholders.

The result : thanks to its many years of experience and operational excellence, the interim manager was able to achieve the objectives successfully. In particular, during the mission, he carried out a consolidation for the tax authorities.
