Article mis à jour le 3 August 2026

As a member of the board of the National Federation of Interim Management, WAYDEN is pleased to relay the FNMT’s press release which informs you of the latest developments in the interim management profession as part of its annual barometer:

“March 14, 2019 –

The National Federation of Interim Management, a trade union representing the profession, presents the main data on the activity of its members for the year 2018 as part of its annual barometer.

Reminder: according to the FNMT-XERFI study published in 2017, Interim Management Companies (EMTs) represent about 60% of the turnover of the total French market of about €300 million, the remaining 40% concerning the activity of freelancers. Of the €160 million turnover of the EMTs, FNMT members represent about 60%.
Due to the diversity of its members, and thanks to its cumulative market share, the FNMT member activity barometer created in 2012 is the only current objective indicator of the market.

“While the analysis of the evolution of annual data still has cyclical limitations, our barometer nevertheless indicates trends since 2012. The perception of these trends must also take into account what analysts call the “weak signals” of the market: these changes that every professional observes in his practice, in the evolution of demand and competition. Below are the FNMT’s main indicators concerning the 2018 activity, our managers and our Clients,” says Jean-Pierre Lacroix, President of the FNMT.

“The trend in the FNMT’s cumulative turnover proves the dynamism of our members and confirms the beginning of maturity in our profession: the use of interim management is becoming a common practice in the life of companies.

A second observation concerns the steady rise in “gap management” missions , which may be linked to companies’ recruitment difficulties: a need to resize a function before launching a recruitment, but also a recourse to the tension perceptible in recent months on the job market for executives (unemployment <rate 4%).

Finally, Interim Management has de-correlated its image solely linked to failing organizations: this represents only 10% of our missions ,” says JPL

“Regarding the market in general, the FNMT notes the multiplication of offers: this proves the attractiveness of the market and its dynamism.

But beware, Interim Management is a job in itself.
On the one hand, being an Interim Manager requires specific qualities to succeed, being available is not a sufficient criterion. On the other hand, our business is not based on simple intermediation with the display of a Manager’s price under a photo. Interim Management is more subtle than that, taking into account the nature of the Client’s request, its context, its psychology, its expectations.
Finally, we see a tendency to confuse Interim Management with rapid recruitment. The market will gain nothing from the confusion of genres: neither managers nor customers.

But it’s a bit of a price for success, for the work we have been doing for so many years: the expression “Interim Management” has become attractive, sellable and rewarding. The slight inflection in the growth rate of our cumulative sales may be a form of market maturity.

The FNMT will continue to defend the need for the quality of interventions, the respect of a necessary and verifiable code of ethics, while opening its ranks to all actors who wish to participate in its development. The practices of FnMT members are labelled every year by Bureau Veritas Certification ». concludes Jean-Pierre LACROIX, President of the FNMT. »
