Are they gifted? Are they able to score more than average on the tests commonly used by psychologists? Have they been brilliant academically? Not necessarily! Why? Because there are different types of intelligence, different ways of being gifted. In addition, there are just as many factors influencing an individual’s baseline potential that can bias intelligence scores and daily adaptation.

Some leaders who could be described as innate will not continue to develop their potential for multiple reasons. These can range from the occurrence of a particular life event that can affect their self-esteem, motivation or psycho-emotional development. In addition, some leaders may at some point in their lives have been shy before discovering that they are leaders if they were deprived of their right to express themselves or if their emotions were repressed.

Others with sometimes similar life stories will be more resilient and will use these experiences as a strength, as an engine for their personal growth and not for their own destruction or that of others, an example of which is specified below.
