On the occasion of the launch of Omniwomen in France, Omnicom’s teams presented a study analyzing the challenges and opportunities for women leaders.

Carried out by Flamingo, the study echoes a previous analysis that focused on women in the United Kingdom. Sponsored by Omnicom for the launch of Omniwomen in France, it looks back at the difficulties that persist for women to access leadership.
While the subject is –finally!- part of conversations (in business, but also during political debates, in pop culture or in advertising), there are signs that it is possible to envisage female leadership.

This trend is made possible by the rise of millennials, who are redefining the way we work and the corporate culture.

Sexism and inequality: obstacles that are difficult to overcome

Many of the women surveyed feel sexism on a daily basis, at work or in the street. Sexist advertising is still too present, despite commendable initiatives.
Seduction games in the workplace are a real burden: difficult to denounce because they are often impossible to prove, they blur the boundaries. “Off-the-record” comments, in a joking or complicity tone, are tolerated by women in France, but can affect them deeply on an emotional level.
There is still a gap of 14.7% between the salaries of men and women, for similar positions and skills.
In addition, management positions are more often granted to men than to women, with identical experience and qualifications.

At the top management level, “boys’ clubs” are legion

Women often feel that they are left out of the highest management circle: just like in the UK, women can miss out on opportunities because of ‘men-only’ activities.
A trend that reinforces latent sexism, but also a feeling of frustration and fatalism.

Media coverage of abuses to counter them
